Join us for Queer Tango Open Practice (aka ¨Práctica¨ in Spanish since we are practicing Argentine Tango!)
Malinda will be facilitating a bilingual queer tango practice space in the Roanoke Diversity Center´s basement lounge on the off weeks from our queer tango lessons at Ursula´s Cafe! You can check out those lessons here: https://www.facebook.com/events/491423593629611/491423606962943?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A[]%7D
These practice spaces are donation-based ($5-15 suggested pay-what-you-can donation to support Queer Dance Roanoke & the Roanoke Diversity Center) and open to anyone interested in learning to queer tango! Allies are welcome, queer folx are centered.
What is Queer Tango? We are an open role tango community which means anyone can learn to lead or follow regardless of gender, and we encourage the learning of both roles to foster empathy and greater connection. To queer tango is to practice care over choreography, to question ways of learning and dancing that don't foster our collective liberation, and to move freely in our bodies in tandem with others at the "milonga" (tango party!). Queer Tango is having a renaissance in the United States since the pandemic, with new communities growing from coast to coast!
